The Museum and The European Union (EU)

The museum is leading in Israel a new approach towards bridging the gap between science and society. Science and Society is a new general domain in The European Union’s sixth Framework Program for research. Science and Society vision is to help create an environment where the public at large, especially young people are more aware, informed
and excited about science.

A team from the Museum is coordinating a committee, established by the Ministry of Science and Technology that oversee the Israeli participation in the projects of Science and Society under the sixth program of the European Union.

Pencil Project (Permanent European Resource Center for Informal Learning)

As an active member of the European Science Museum Organization – ECSITE, The Museum is partner to a new initiative sponsored by the EU together with 12 other Science Centers, two universities, researchers, and schools throughout Europe towards bridging the gap between research laboratories and the school class-room.

Young Scientists Contest

A national contest within the framework of the European union activity. The final-stage projects exhibited in the Museum and winners participate in The European Union contest, and Intel ISEF contest in United States. A collaborative project with the Intel Industry and the Ministry of Education and.

The Science Café

An encounter between scientists and members of the society in an informal atmosphere. The Science Café tries to take science away from the chairs of the classroom and into big, fluffy sofas. The meetings are about being accessible and the audience is also encouraged to question the speaker so that everyone can be part of a discussion rather than be fed a lecture. Science Cafe attempts to promote public engagement in science.

Resource Center

The Museum’s Resource Center is open to the public as well as to groups from the educational system. A variety of visitors come to look through books or to surf the Web with the guidance of a librarian. These days the staff of the resource center is
developing additional models for activities that take advantage of the Resource Center and its special facilities, such as video conference.

The Museum’s site broadens the scope of the Museum and adds a virtual dimension, as a focus for distance learning. The site is aimed at the general public and at the various facets of the educational system. The Museum’s site is linked to selected sites and serves as gateway to the Net.
